In the summer months, in fact, it can be quite crowded but, by following our advice, you will be able to enjoy the tranquility of the beach and choose the best place to spread out your towel.
Bring with you everything you need for a day at the beach, but remember that there are also several equipped beaches where you can rent sunbeds and umbrellas. Don’t forget to take a walk along the coast: walking north or south, you can discover less frequented corners of the beach and enjoy the sea in total relaxation.
If you love snorkeling, bring your equipment with you. The waters of the Torre Mozza sea are incredibly transparent and it is not difficult to spot fish and other marine creatures hiding among the rocks. If, however, you like walking by the sea, from here you could reach other coastal locations, such as the nearby Torre San Giovanni, also part of the marina of Ugento.
How is the sea in Torre Mozza?
The sea at Torre Mozza is one of the main attractions. With its hue that varies from turquoise to intense blue, it is one of the most beautiful areas of Salento.
The waters are generally calm, thanks to the protected location of the beach. The seabed is sandy and shallow for many metres, which makes it perfect for those who want to enter the water gradually or for those who swim with small children.
When the wind blows from the north, the water becomes even more transparent, revealing every detail of the seabed. On sirocco days, however, the sea can become choppy, while still remaining suitable for swimming.
Lidos in Torre Mozza
The beach of Torre Mozza Santa near Maria di Leuca offers various options between equipped beaches and free beaches. Among the favorites of bathers is the Lido Mania, much loved for the services offered and the privileged position on the beach. Here you can rent sunbeds, umbrellas and enjoy a drink or light meal at the bar. It is the perfect place if you don’t want to give up comfort during your day at the beach.
If you prefer a more spartan solution, in Torre Mozza there is a portion of free beach where you can spread out your towel and enjoy the natural beauty of the place without too many distractions.
Prices and opening times
Access to the Torre Mozza beach is free if you opt for the free beach, while the lidos such as the Lido Mania offer paid services.
The prices for renting an umbrella and two sunbeds vary depending on the season, but in high season they can be around 20-50 euros per day. If you want to save money, it is preferable to book in advance, especially if you travel in the months of July and August, when demand is high.
The beaches generally open early in the morning, around 8.30am, and close around 7pm, but you can stop to admire the sunset even until you see the last ray of sun disappear.
Where it is and how to reach Torre Mozza beach
The Spiaggia di Torre Mozza is located along the Ionian coast of Salento, in the marina of Ugento, about 10 kilometers from Torre San Giovanni and about 35 kilometers from Santa Maria di Leuca.
Reaching it is simple if you travel by car: take the state road 274 from Gallipoli towards Leuca and follow the signs for Ugento and then to Torre Mozza. Once on site you will find several car parks, both free and paid, near the beach.
If you travel without a car, you can use the local buses offered by Salento by bus which connect the main Salento cities with the coastal towns. Bear in mind that public transport services may not be punctual or frequent, so if you intend to travel from one beach to another, we recommend renting a car.
Finally, if you travel by train, the closest station to Torre Mozza is Presicce.
Activities to do in the area
In addition to lazing by the sea, there are many activities you can do around the Torre Mozza beach. If you are a history buff, don’t miss the Coastal Tower, from which the town takes its name. This tower was initially called Torre Fiumicelli because it was built near fresh water springs and was part of the coastal defense system built in the 16th century to protect the territory from Saracen incursions. Today, even if it cannot be visited inside, it represents a point of reference for those visiting the area.
For trekking lovers, however, there is the possibility of exploring the Ugento Coastal Natural Park, which offers various paths between dunes, Mediterranean scrub forests and basins.
Furthermore, if you like food and wine, don’t miss the opportunity to taste the typical Salento products in the area’s restaurants: from homemade pasta to fresh seafood, every meal is an opportunity to try the authentic flavors of Salento, perhaps in one of the many restaurants by the sea.
Finally, a visit to Santa Maria di Leuca, the extreme tip of the Salento peninsula, is a must for those who love breathtaking landscapes and want to discover the charm of finis terrae Apulian.
