Alessano is in the southern Salento, in the province of Lecce, at the foot of the elevations of Serra dei Cianci. The town borders with the municipalities of Tricase and Specchia to the north, with the municipalities of Tiggiano and Corsano and the Ionian Sea to the east. It borders with the municipalities of Gagliano del Capo and Castrignano del Capo to the south , while with the municipalities of Morciano di Leuca, Salve and Presicce-Acquarica to the west. A part of Alessano’s territory belongs to the regional natural park Costa Otranto – Santa Maria di Leuca e Bosco di Tricase, established by Regione Puglia to preserve the eastern coast of Salento, characterized with important architectural assets and a rich biodiversity.

To reach Alessano there are several options:

  • by car: if you’re coming from north, you can take the A14 motorway to Bari and then follow the highway to Lecce. From there, follow the SS16 Adriatica towards SS275 to Alessano, which is about 60 kilometers from Lecce.
  • by train: the nearest railway station to Alessano is Tricase, which is about 10 kilometers away. You can take a regional train to Tricase from Lecce or other cities in the region and then continue your journey by bus or taxi to Alessano.
  • by bus: Alessano is linked to several cities in the region through bus services. You can take a direct bus from Lecce or other nearby locations to Alessano or Tricase. During summer Salento in Bus service is active, take the number 107 line from Lecce to S.M. di Leuca.
  • by plane: if you arrive from other Italian regions or from abroad, you can take a flight to Brindisi airport or Bari airport. From there, you can rent a car or take a train or bus to reach Alessano.
