General information on the Maldives of Puglia

The Maldives of Salento are located in Pescoluse, a seaside resort in the municipality of Salve, in the province of Lecce. But why are they called Maldives of Salento? The reason is not accidental: thinking of the long stretches of white sand, the clear sea and the child-friendly seabeds, it is natural to think of tropical paradises. But the place, in reality, owes its name to the local beach resort called, precisely, Lido Maldives of Salento. Since then, the entire Pescoluse beach has been known as such.

And which is the most beautiful beach in the Maldives of Salento? It’s hard to choose: many love the central stretch of Pescoluse, right in front of the Lido Maldive del Salento, where the sand is whiter and the water incredibly transparent. Others prefer quieter areas on the edges, such as Posto Vecchio or Torre Pali, less crowded even in high season. The truth is that every traveler can find their favorite corner on this long coastline.

Lidos in the Maldives of Salento

One of the peculiarities of Pescoluse is the right balance between free beach and equipped beaches. You will have the possibility of laying out your towel on the sand and enjoying your day at the beach independently or stopping at one of the many beaches that dot the coast for a more comfortable experience.

Among the most famous establishments there is, without a doubt, the aforementioned Lido Maldives of Salento, which has given its name to the entire location and has become a point of reference for those looking for every comfort: well-spaced umbrellas, sunbeds, showers, a beach bar and even the possibility of having lunch with a splendid view of the sea.

However, if you decide to spend a day at one of the many beach resorts, we recommend booking in advance.

Tips for visiting the Maldives of Salento

Organizing a day or a vacation in the Maldives of Salento is simple, but some practical advice can make your experience even more enjoyable. First of all, consider the period: in the height of summer, especially in August, these beaches are very popular and overcrowded. If you can plan a visit, the months of June and Septemberare ideal: the climate is just right, the sea is clean and there are few people on the beach. July is also a good month, with the advantage of very long days to make the most of until the last ray of sunshine.

Another suggestion is to arrive early in the morning. The light of the first hours of the day makes the landscape almost enchanted, with the very calm sea that resembles a transparent table. In addition, you will have the opportunity to easily find parking and choose the best place to park.

If you want to find the calm and crystalline sea, like in the photos you have already seen, make sure you go when the tramontana wind is blowing, with the sirocco it is to be avoided. It may seem silly, but in Salento it is really important to watch the winds before going to the beach. When you do, you will be able to feel like a real local!

One last tip: stay on the beach until sunset. The sky that lights up with orange and red on the Ionian Sea is a sight that you will hardly forget.

Prices Maldives del Salento

Let’s talk about a practical aspect: prices. We know you’re probably wondering: how much does a beach umbrella cost in the Maldives of Salento? The answer is it depends on the beach, the period and the services it offers. On average, for a beach umbrella and two sun loungers you spend around €30-40 per day in the last rows of the beach. Prices rise dramatically for the first rows, reaching up to €50/70 per day in high season. Of course, out of season or with weekly passes you save money and those who stay more days can benefit from discounts.

A separate discussion for the VIP services of the most exclusive beaches, which include packages with private gazebos and extra comfort at very high prices.

Obviously if you decide to enjoy this paradise without going to a beach resort, therefore choosing the free beach, you will save a little money. In that case, with your beach towel and perhaps an umbrella brought from home, you will only pay for parking and any snacks or drinks.

What to see in the surroundings

If you manage to tear yourself away from the beach for a few hours, you will discover that the surroundings are also very interesting. A few kilometers away is Santa Maria di Leuca, whose lighthouse is a silent witness to the meeting between the Adriatic and Ionian Seas.

Continuing along the Ionian coast you will find other wonderful beaches such as Lido Marini, Torre Vado, Torre Mozza and Torre Pali, characterized by ancient watchtowers that give them their name and that offer exciting views.

For a change of atmosphere, we recommend you also visit the hinterland: just 10 km from the coast are Specchia and Presicce, two of the most beautiful villages in Italy and known for their courtyard houses and old underground oil mills.
