The Punta Palascia lighthouse, built in 1867, has lived a rich history of events. Born as a valuable guide for sailors in the Adriatic Sea and the Ionian Sea, it has played a fundamental role for safety at sea for over a century. However, in the 1970s, the lighthouse was abandoned, undergoing a period of decline and degradation.
Luckily, in 2008, the Punta Palascia lighthouse is reborn. Thanks to a work of restoration and enhancement, it was reopened to the public, assuming an even more important role for the territory.

The 32-metre (105 ft) tall white-stone cylindrical tower rises majestically over a two-storey white building. The lantern, positioned 60 meters (200 feet) above sea level, gives out a white flash every 5 seconds, visible from up to 18 nautical miles (33 km) away.
You can visit the interior of the Punta Palascia lighthouse and climb to the top via a spiral staircase of about 150 steps, which allows you to reach the lantern, built in Paris in 1884 by the watchmaker Agostino-Henry Lepaute.

Where is and how to get to Punta Palascia lighthouse
The Punta Palascia lighthouse is in Otranto, province of Lecce, in Puglia, at the eastern end of the Salento peninsula. The best way to get there is by car. Departing from Lecce you have to reach Otranto via the SP16 and then continue on sp87 for about 4.5 km. Here you will find a small free parking and you will be able to continue along a path that in about 5 minutes will take you right at the foot of the lighthouse.
