Legend about Le Due Sorelle in Torre dell’Orso

The origin of Le Due Sorelle in Salento is shrouded in a romantic legend: it is said that two beautiful sisters, returning from the countryside on a hot summer day, went to the seaside in search of coolness. One of the two, attracted by the inviting scent of the sea, threw herself into the waves but was immediately dragged away by the current. The other, in an attempt to save her, also dived, but both were swallowed by the sea. Moved by their fate, the divinities transformed them into two stacks, which emerge side by side from the waters, as if in an eternal embrace.

Le Due Sorelle, in addition to being the name of the majestic sea stacks that swirl in the Caribbean waters, is also the name of the beach on which they are located, in Torre dell’Orso. A strip of sand no more than 800 meters long, bordered by two cliffs about 40 meters high, which protect it from the winds. The Le Due Sorelle beach in Salento stands out for its fine sand, crystal clear and pristine waters, awarded with the Blue Flag, and the presence of equipped beaches and bathing establishments.

It is no coincidence that it is, in fact, among the most beautiful beaches in Salento, but this also makes it extremely crowded in the summer months, an aspect that can be seen both as an advantage for the liveliness of the place and as a disadvantage for those seeking tranquility.
