Baia di Porto Miggiano

Porto Miggiano is not just a bay: it is a window onto the wild and authentic heart of Salento.

In this article you will find all the useful information for visiting and reaching the beach of Porto Miggiano.

General information

The Bay of Porto Miggiano is one of the most fascinating inlets of Salento, a stone’s throw from Santa Cesarea Terme. Imagine a natural pool surrounded by golden rocks, with turquoise waters that change color depending on the daylight. A crazy show! This bay, in the shadow of an ancient coastal tower, from which it takes its name, has unfortunately experienced difficult times. Due to the risk of the cliffs collapsing, in fact, the Municipality had to intervene with heavy safety works, which changed the natural appearance of the bay, sparking controversy among local lovers. For a period it was also closed and inaccessible, but today it is once again one of the most beautiful and visited places in Salento. The bay of Porto Miggiano is also known as the “Beach of 100 steps“, since to reach the beach you have to walk along a scenic staircase characterized by 100 steps.

On the side of the staircase there are artificial concrete platforms created to consolidate the rocky ridges, offering direct access to the sea. Its deep and crystalline waters allow you to swim in a protected and fascinating environment, with a predominantly rocky and not sandy seabed.
