Precisely for this reason, the local community has celebrated it with great devotion for centuries.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"491\" data-end=\"914\" data-is-last-node=\"\" data-is-only-node=\"\">Every year, <strong>on the nights of August 15 and 16<\/strong>, the <strong>festival in honor of San Rocco<\/strong> comes to life, an event capable of transforming the Salento atmosphere into an explosion of colors, sounds and traditions. With bright ribbons, tambourines beating the rhythm and patrols animating the streets, the celebration is configured not only as a moment of deep devotion, but also as an authentic expression of local popular culture.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"491\" data-end=\"914\" data-is-last-node=\"\" data-is-only-node=\"\"><iframe title=\"YouTube video player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/JBSem7tMv84?si=PaGJAP7P54iSrw3L\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">History and legend of the Sanctuary of San Rocco Ruffano<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The history of the cult of San Rocco in Torrepaduli is shrouded in a legend that still fascinates those who visit the sanctuary. It is said that the citizens of Ruffano decided to move the statue of San Rocco from the small hamlet to the mother church, to give it greater prestige.\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">During the journey, however, the simulacrum became incredibly heavy, so much so that the porters were no longer able to carry it. The <\/span><b>main fa\u00e7ade<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, linear and harmonious, is surmounted by a tympanum with a stone frame that gives balance and grandeur to the structure.\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In the center, the stone portal is surmounted by an arched window, a detail that delicately illuminates the interior of the church. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On the sides, two deep empty niches contribute to giving symmetry and charm to the facade, while a cross on the top seals the spiritual identity of the place.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Over time, the sanctuary has been enriched with new functional and significant additions. This type of vault, elegant and solid at the same time, helps to create a welcoming and majestic environment.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The transept, the focal point of the church, houses two altars dating back to the 19th century. The one on the left, in stone, is dedicated to <\/span><b>Saint Lucy<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, protector of sight, while the one on the right, covered in polychrome marble, celebrates the <\/span><b>Baptism of Christ<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Both altars, with their finely crafted details, represent the popular devotion and craftsmanship of the time.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Another element of great interest is the mosaic floor, made in <\/span><b>1891<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> by the master Michele Peluso of Tricase. The tiles, arranged with care and precision, form a decorative motif that enriches the environment with a touch of color and art, creating a visual contrast that guides the gaze towards the main altar.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To complete the harmony of the altar, we find the statues of two other saints highly venerated in the Salento tradition: <\/span><b>Sant&#8217; Oronzo<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, placed on the left, and <\/span><b>San Sebastiano<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, on the right.
